is based on the recommendations contained in the " Memorandum
on Closure and Exclusion from School, 1927," issued conjointly
by the Ministry of Health and Board of Education.
Thirteen visits of inspection were made to school premises.
The sanitary conditions of the schools were generally satisfactory.
Since the end of the year work has commenced on the demolition of
one old school of antiquated design.
Cemeteries.
The Surrey County Council Bill referred to in my last report has
now become Law and the district is thereby provided with approximately
25 acres of land in Morden for burial purposes. Negotiations
are now in progress with the Merton and Morden Urban
District Council for a joint scheme incorporating adjacent land
in the ownership of that authority.
Mortuary.
The new Mortuary is now complete.
Shops Acts 1912—1938.
The Chief and District Sanitary Inspectors are appointed
Inspectors under the Shops Acts.
There are approximately 580 shops on the register.

During the year, 1157 inspections were made and 77 informal notices served for the following infringements :—
