Evening and Sunday visits are made for the detection of infringements
in addition to the inspections made during the routine
visits to food shops.
Section 10.
Details of the operation of Section 10 of the 1934 Act relating
to the health and comfort of shop assistants during 1938 are as
follows :—
Formal notices served .. .. .. 8
Shops without sanitary accommodation and
washing facilities .. .. .. 4
Shops without means of providing a reasonable
temperature .. .. .. 6
Shops provided with sanitary accommodation
or washing facilities .. .. 3
Shops provided with means for providing a
reasonable temperature .. .. .. 16
No formal exemption certificates in respect of the provision of
sanitary accommodation or washing facilities were issued, but two
written undertakings were accepted for two shops on conditions
where accommodation was available at other premises, and in
one case where only the occupiers of the shop were employed.
Of the 16 shops provided with means for maintaining a reasonable
temperature, 7 were meat shops, 6 grocery shops, 1 fish
shop, 1 hardware shop and 1 fruit and greengrocery.
There are still 10 notices outstanding for the provision of means
for maintaining a reasonable temperature. Six of these are on
meat shops, 2 fruit and greengrocery shops, 1 fish shop and 1
grocery and provision.
Offices.
Visits were made to offices but no conditions were found which
required special action under the Public Health Act, 1936.
Camping Sites.
One site at The Oaks, which is owned by the Council, was used as
a camping ground by boy scouts for week-end camping. The
greatest number of campers at any one time was 40.
