Mortuary.—Work is now in progress on the new mortuary
building which is of modern design and incorporates adequate
facilities for post-mortem examinations.
Shops Acts, 1912-1936 .—The Chief Sanitary Inspector and the
2 District Inspectors are appointed Inspectors under the Shops
Acts. There are approximately 550 premises which come under
the operationn of these Acts.

During the year 1049 inspections were made to shops and notices were served in respect of the following 297 infringements:—

Statutory notices were served with regard to 7 shops. One
hundred and seventy-one informal notices were also served.
Periodic inspections of shops are made on Sundays and during
evening closing hours. No partial exemption order has been made.
Two prosecutions were taken, one for infringement of the
Wednesday half day closing, the other for infringement of evening
closing hours. Both were successful.
Section 10.—Details of the operation of Section 10 of the 1934
Act, relating to the health and comfort of shop assistants, during
1937 are as follows:—
