NURSERY SCHOOLS.
Statement of the work of the School Medical Service in connection
with Nursery Schools, including results of medical inspection and
treatment.
There are no Nursery Schools in Tottenham.
Two Nursery Classes for children from 3-4½ years of age, and one
Transitional Class for infants of 4½-5 years, with total accommodation
for 116 children, are held in bright and airy classrooms at Lancasterian
School. Admission is granted at the request of parents and on the
recommendation of the Medical Officer in charge of the Infant Welfare
Centre in the northern area of the Borough.
The children undergo routine medical inspection annually, and the
School Nurse attends one session weekly during which minor ailments
are treated.
Visits to these Classes are paid at frequent intervals by the Senior
Assistant Medical Officer. As the Bruce Castle Treatment Centre is
within easy access of Lancasterian School, any child requiring medical
attention is immediately referred to the School Clinic for treatment.
Each child is provided with individual toilet requisites, and a
high standard of personal hygiene has been maintained.
One-third of a pint of pasteurised milk is supplied daily to every
child, free in necessitous oases.
The health of the children in these classes during the past year has
been very good, a low percentage of infectious cases being reported.
