Downhills Park Open-Air Class.
This class of girls met in the bandstand from April 30th to October
26th.
The number of pupils on roll was 23. Of these, 10 were admitted
from Downhills Senior Girls, 7 from West Green Junior Mixed, 3 from
Culvert Senior Girls, 2 from Page Green Senior Girls and 1 from Downhills
Junior Mixed Schools.
The ages of the scholars ranged from 8 to 14 years and the work, as
in previous years, was conducted on individual lines. Nature study and
dramatic work were notable features.
The beauty of the surroundings was much appreciated by the children
and they formed a very happy little community.
The cases selected for admission were suffering from the following
defects:—
Subnormal Nutrition 8
Anaemia 6
Bronchitis and Bronchial Catarrh 5
Debility 2
Quiescent Tuberculosis of Lungs 1
Tuberculosis of Cervical Glands 1
An average of 5 lbs. gain in weight was noted after the period of
open-air education and there was evidence of general improvement in the
health of the girls.
Full-time Courses of Higher Education for Blind, Deaf, Defective
and Epileptic Students:—
These cases are dealt with by the County Authority.

At the beginning of 1935—
115 children were in residence;
377 were admitted in 1935;
414 were discharged;
78 remained at the beginning of 1936.
