The use of large-size printed reading books is being continued and
we have not, as yet, received any unfavourable report as a consequence.
Composition, spelling and general knowledge has improved as a result
of the use of books in the school.
The wireless set is still in use, and some of the school broadcast
lessons are listened to with interest each week and are much enjoyed.
Orchard House Open-Air Centre.
Report for the year ended 31s£ December, 1935.
During the year there were 38 boys on the school roll. 9 boys were
lmitted and 10 withdrawn.
Of the 10 scholars withdrawn, 2 left the district for other schools,
and 8 found employment in the following trades, viz. :—
1 Polisher.
2 Woodwork.
1 Brass Moulder.
2 Gas Meter Makers.
1 at Pencil Factory.
1 at Rubber Factory.
The scholars gave evidence of continued and increased physical and
mental development. The average increase in weight was 9 lbs.
The scholars received one-third of a pint of milk daily. 18 received
|oz. of cod liver oil and malt daily and 8 received dinners daily.
The curriculum includes the ordinary school subjects with gardening,
woodwork and other manual tasks.
The scholars were drawn from the following schools:—
