Swimming Baths There are two public swimming baths in Sutton and
Cheam The Maiden Road Bath, Cheam, was opened in 1938, and so is
reasonably modern. It is open between April and September, and in Winter
it is converted into a fine public hall.

The Throwley Road Bath, Sutton, is much older and has changing cubicles round the sides of the bath. It is open all the year round.

Both work on a continuous cycle of- pressure filtration and chlorination,
the actual water being emptied out once a year and the Baths being refilled
with mains water.
Records are kept at both Baths showing the number of bathers, water
temperature and residual chlorine levels at various times during the day
and from these it was clear that an adequate degree of chlorination was
being maintained.
Three bacteriological and one chemical sample were taken from the
Throwley Road Bath, and three bacteriological samples from Maiden Road
Bath. All seven samples were reported as satisfactory.
In addition, there is a learner swimming bath at Avenue Road County
Primary School, Belmont Rise, Belmont. A small pressure filter and
chlorinator was in use and a complete circulation of water was obtained
every eight hours. Four samples of the water were taken for bacteriological
examination, and were found to be satisfactory.
