Swimming Baths There are two public swimming baths in Sutton
and Cheam. The Maiden Road Bath, Cheam, was opened in 1938, and so
is reasonably modern. It is open between April and September, and in
Winter it is converted into a fine public hall.
The Throwley Road Bath, Sutton, is much older and has changing cubicles round the sides of the bath. It is open all the year round.

Both work on a continuous cycle of pressure filtration and chlorination,
the actual water being emptied out once a year and the Baths being refilled
with mains water.
Records are kept at both Baths showing the number of bathers, water
temperature and residual chlorine levels at various times during the day and
from these it was clear that an adeguate degree of chlorination was being
maintained.
Five bacteriological and one chemical sample were taken from the
Throwley Road Bath, and four bacteriological and one chemical sample from
Maiden Road Bath. The nine bacteriological samples were all reported as
being satisfactory, and the two chemical samples were reported to be
excellent.
In addition, there is a learner swimming bath at Avenue Road County
Primary School, Belmont Rise, Belmont. Owing to the very poor weather
conditions prevailing during the Summer months, the pool was in use only
intermittently from the beginning of May to the end of July, and was used
only once or twice during the month of September. The pool was emptied
