NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT, 1948
Section 17 (Removal of Persons in Seed of Care and Attention)
No action was necessary under this Section of the Act.
Nine old persons were brought to notice for the first time in 1960 as
possibly being in need of care and attention, and were visited. Of these,
four were able to manage at home, four were admitted to hospital, and one
was admitted to an old persons home.
Eleven aged persons already known continued under observation from
the previous year. Nine remained at home, and one of these died during
the year. The other two were admitted to hospital.
Section 50 (Burial and Cremation of the Dead)
One burial was arranged under the powers granted to the Council by
this Section.
MORTUARY
During 1960, two hundred and two bodies were admitted and
underwent post mortem examination. Ninety two of the bodies were
admitted from hospitals, and nine from other local authority areas.
NEW MORTUARY
The new mortuary came into operation on the 27th December, and
the last three bodies were examined in it. The conditions and facilities
available are the best that can be provided for this type of work.
LABORATORIES
The Public Health Laboratory, Epsom, served the Borough for
bacteriological examinations. This service is supplemented by the use
of the laboratories at Sutton and Cheam Hospital and St. Helier Hospital.
Approximately seven hundred and forty specimens connected with
infectious diseases were submitted to the laboratories during the year.
It is with regret that I learn that Dr. D.M. Stone of Epsom Public
Health Laboratory will be retiring at the end of March, 1961, and I would
like to record my appreciation of the high standard of service that has
been received from this Laboratory under her direction.
CLINICS
Details of the clinics available in the district are given at the end
of this report. (Pages 53-54)
