(3) Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act, 1960
This Act made further provision for the licensing and control of
caravan sites, authorised Local Authorities to provide and operate caravan
sites, and amended the law relating to enforcement notices, etc. under the
Town and Country Planning Act, 1947.
(4) Oil Burners (Standards) Act, 1960
This Act comes into operation on the 1st January 1961 and the
Secretary of State may make regulations which provide for safety standards
and instructions for use of oil heaters.
HEALTH EDUCATION
Apart from the health education given by all members of the staff
during their routine visits, the following subjects have been dealt with.
(i) Talks were given by the Medical Officer of Health: to an old age
pensions association on Home Safety; to infant welfare clinic parents on
Infectious Diseases; and to a secondary boys school on the Work of the
Medical Officer of Health.
The Chief Public Health Inspector gave two talks to political
organisations, on the work of the Public Health Inspectors.
(ii) Poster displays were run 6n Coughs and Sneezes in January and
December; and on Poliomyelitis in May and September. Posters on Food
Hygiene were obtained in July for distribution in food premises by the
Public Health Inspectors.
In July assistance was given to the Divisional Medical Officer's
drive for Home Helps, by a display of posters.
Publicity in connection with the Mass Miniature Radiography Unit's
visit to Worcester Park was given in November.
During the year arrangements were made for getting Venereal Disease
posters displayed in the conveniences at railway stations within the Borough.
(iii) Articles were written by the Medical Officer of Health in a ratepayers'
gazette on Winter Infections; The Importance of Clean Food; The Present
Position of Tuberculosis; Accidents in the Home (II); and the Mental Health
Services.
MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
Eighty six medical examinations of staff were undertaken during the
year, consisting of seventy two for superannuation purposes and fourteen
sick pay cases for reports to the Establishment Committee.
