Sample No. 476 : Blueberries.
The sample proved to be blueberries in syrup but incorrectly
labelled under the labelling of Food Order, 1953. The suppliers
agreed immediately to amend the labelling of their product.
Sample No. 481 : White Meat Tunny.
The Public Analyst reported a labelling irregularity in that the
sample showed a salt ingredient which was not disclosed. The
importers made arrangements for the contents to be correctly declared
on the label in unsold consignments of the product.
Sample No. 482 : Bruder Sticks.
The sample was reported to be labelled so as to make a vitamin
claim for the product without complying with the Labelling of Food
Order, 1953. Correspondence with the suppliers and the German
manufacturers eventually produced agreement to label the Bruder
Sticks so as to comply with the Order.
Merchandise Marks Act, 1926.
Orders in Council have been made under Section 2 of the Act
which require certain imported foods to bear an indication of their
origin when exposed for retail sale.
Eleven visits were made during the year for the purpose of
advising retailers on these Orders, particularly in regard to the sale
of imported apples, tomatoes and meat. Attention was also drawn,
in three cases, to the need to indicate the origin of certain prepacked
foods in accordance with Section 1 of the Act.
