Section 75 (Provision of dustbins)
In most cases owners or tenants replaced the defective dustbins
following informal requests. Three statutory notices were served.
Sections 92 and 93 (Abatement of statutory nuisance.)
In 28 cases it was found necessary to recommend the service of
statutory notices, principally in respect of housing defects not
warranting action under the Housing Act,
Section 277, (Power of local authorities to require information
as to ownership of premises.
Three notices were served.
Public Health Act 1961.
Section 26 (Defective premises)
A notice was served requiring the carrying out of urgent repairs.
Under the provisions of this Act the local authority are entitled, after
giving 7 days notice, to enter the premises and carry out the work
themselves.
Section 74 (Reduction of pigeons in built up areas)
The Council authorised a firm of operators to get rid of an
infestation of pigeons which was causing a nuisance in Sinclair Road,
Unfortunately, the firm has had little success so far.
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 194-9 (Rodent control),
1. Complaints received of rats and mice: 209
2. Treatments carried out:
(i) Private houses 532
(ii) Business premises 68
(iii) Local Authorities premises 42
3, The 27th sewer treatment was carried out from the 21st
to the 28th May 1962 - 148 manholes were treated and
34 found to be infested, a very satisfactory result.
Representatives of the department attended three meetings held
by the Essex Area Workable Committee to discuss problems, their solution
and new methods of control.
The Department does not charge for the treatment of private
dwellings, £24.14.0d was recovered from the owners of business
premises for treatments carried out.
