Southern Sewage Disposal Works
It was learnt from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government
that consideration would be given to loan sanction after 31st March,
1957 for the first stage of the Major Improvement Scheme. This
includes the installation of detritor, new screens, two clariflocculators
and three humus tanks, with the necessary ancillary works. Although
considerable progress was made on preparing the detailed scheme
it was again delayed by the technical staff position, but at the end
of the year additional technical staff was obtained and work continued.
Western Sewage Disposal Works
Construction of the connecting sewer to Chingford, storm overflow
and ancillaries was completed and the flow from the Western
Drainage Area diverted to Chingford. This was followed by demolition
of the old Sewage Works and a commencement of site reinstatement.
