HEALTH CENTRE SITES
In May a report was made to the Health Area Sub-Committee
that the appropriate members of the County Council had agreed
that six centres should be defined in the Borough for Health Service
purposes in the draft town maps. The selected sites are :—
1. Brookscroft (adjoining) 1.25 acres
2. Queen's Road/Longfellow Road 1.0 acres
3. Vincent Road 1.0 acres
4. Stoneydown (Pretoria Avenue) 0.97 acres
5. Priory Court 0.9 acres
6. Wood Street (Clearance Area) Not yet defined
The decision regarding the number of sites was reached on
the basis of one centre per 20,000 population and to serve a radius
of one mile.
GENERAL DENTAL SERVICE
The Senior Dental Officer reports as follows :—
This service has continued as in previous years but once again
I have to report a further decline in the number of sessions worked.
This is mainly due to the circumstance that one of the part-time
staff, Mr. Clarke, has been studying for a higher qualification and
has been compelled to reduce his number of sessions.
The diminution has this time been comparatively slight and
the amount of treatment given has naturally been slightly less
than last year. The exception has been in extractions and dentures,
which remain about the same.
In a preventive service this is not an advantage, and more
conservative work could be completed for the younger patients if
more evening sessions could have been worked. These patients are
usually unable to attend during the day.
The number of new patients shows a considerable reduction
on last year's figures as it was felt to be fairer, in difficult circumstances,
to give regular patients a certain priority.
