There is one cowshed in the district and the average number of
cows kept is four.
The number of Retail Purveyors of Milk is 74. The majority
of these are of the ''general'' shop type, and sell ''milk as received''
in bottles.
Eighty-three visits were paid to registered dealers during the
year and a fair standard of cleanliness was maintained.
The Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936.
The number of Licences granted for the sale of Milk under
Special Designations classified in the above Order was as follows:—
Dealers' Licences.
In respect of:— Supplementary Licences.
Pasteurised Milk 15 Pasteurised Milk 2
Tuberculin Tested Milk 10 Tuberculin Tested Milk 2
Bottling Licences.
Pasteurised Milk 2 Tuberculin Tested Milk 2
(6) Ice Cream.
The embargo on the sale of ice cream having been removed,
59 applications to manufacture or for the sale of this commodity
were received.
Licences were granted as follows:—
Manufacturers and Vendors 23
Vendors only 35
Refused 1
As soon as conditions permit it is hoped that the Minister of
Health will formulate Regulations governing the chemical composition
and bacteriological standard for this much sought-after food.
(c) Meat and Other Foods.
The Live Stock (Restriction of Slaughtering) Order, 1940,
continued in force and no slaughtering was carried out during the
year.
The following is a list of the food condemned as unfit for human
consumption. As in previous years, wherever possible, the food
was salvaged either through the Ministry of Food Salvage Division
or the local scheme.
In addition to the following list a quantity of war damaged
food was also dealt with.
