Mrs. Drury, the Honorary Secretary, kindly reports as
follows:—
"The year has been a disastrous one for the Association owing to
the fact that, at the beginning of hostilities, it was not possible properly
to protect No. 19, Carisbrooke Road as a Maternity Home,
and, therefore, it was decided to close it down temporarily. The
Staff of the Home were employed until they obtained posts, which
they did very soon. Where possible, cases already booked for the
Home were attended to in their own homes, but many, of course,
evacuated and were lost to the Association.
"In consequence of No. 19, Carisbrooke Road being unused,
36, Carisbrooke Road was given up and the nurses all moved over
to the houses Nos. 17 and 19, Carisbrooke Road.
"The District Nursing Work has been fully maintained and was
increased considerably by the fact that Hospitals evacuated their
cases at an early stage. All calls have been met.
"The Staff at December 31st, 1939, was as follows:—
"One Superintendent.
"One Assistant Superintendent.
"Four Queen's Nurses (all Midwives).
"Two Municipal Midwives.
"One Voluntary Midwife.
"One Emergency Midwife.
"One Non-Queen's Nurse
