and two Queen's Candidates who were given their training, passed
their examination and were approved on the Queen's Roll by H.M.
Queen Mary. They are now on the Staff.
"General cases attended during the year, January
1st to December 31st, 1939 918
"Visits for general cases 22,129
'"Midwifery and Maternity cases attended on the
District 218
"Midwifery and Maternity cases attended in the
Maternity Home 77
"Cases outside the Borough in and out of the
Home (included above) 68
"Gas and Air—Cases to which this was administered
on Home and District 59
"Twelve Pupil Midwives were trained during the year, comprising
eight from Thorpe Coombe and four from L.C.C. Hospitals.
"The Nurses of the Association have been allocated by the
M.O.H. to Dressing Stations in the event of Air Raids.
"Sixty-one Lectures were given by the Superintendent to men
and women to enable the majority of the members to enter for the
St. John Ambulance examination.
"Anti-Gas Lectures were given to the Staff of Messrs. Marks
& Spencer by Miss Duff.
"The Provident Scheme was badly affected by evacuation, but
counteracted by the fact that many new members were made, and
also, we were working in conjunction with the Greater London
Provident Scheme.
"The Association sustained a great loss in the retirement of
the Chairman, Dr. A. P. Eldred. His successor is Dr. Myer
Cohen."
ANAESTHETIST'S FEES.
During 1939 recovery on the scale for assisted Maternity and
Child Welfare services was made in the two cases in which this
service was approved.
CONSULTANT OBSTETRICIANS.
The services of a, Consultant Obstetrician were requested by a
General Practitioner on one occasion (i.e., apart from the
Maternity Hospital).
