required to work on a rota for relief work in respect of her
colleagues' off-duty, holidays, sickness, suspension and attendance
at post-graduate courses.
Free choice of midwife to be allowed to each patient (as far
as practicable), and bookings and examinations to bo done at the
midwife's home if the patient so desires. The midwife must, if
required, be prepared to assist in the training of pupil midwives—
in which case a board allowance of 30s. per week will be payable.
All practice to be confined to the area of the Borough.
(B) That midwives appointed be required (if necessary at a
later date) to undertake any reasonable nursing duties other than
midwifery or maternity nursing.
(C) That the standard fee for a domiciliary confinement be 40s.
(D) That the recovery of fees from necessitous patients in
respect of (1) midwife's fee, (2) home help, (3) accouchement outfit,
(4) G.P. ante-natal examination, (5) medical aid recoveries,
(6) consultant obstetrician, and (7) artificial dentures, be on the
existing "Thorpe Coombe" scale adjusted on a fractional basis.
(E) That this scale be applicable for all cases attended by
whole-time salaried midwives.
(F) That each midwife (if required) should attend an annual
Refresher Course.
(G) That the existing home help scheme be made available
during any incapacity of an expectant mother during pregnancy
on medical advice.
(H) That accouchement outfits be supplied at 6s. 0d. each (sub
ject to recovery on the scale adopted).
(I) That the general practitioner ante-natal scheme formerly
operative at "Thorpe Coombe" be extended to cover cases attended
by whole-time salaried midwives under the new service, and that
patients have free choice of ante-natal supervision under the
scheme or at Municipal clinics.
(J) That a rota be compiled of doctors with surgeries in the
Borough and willing to serve on the general practitioner ante-natal
and medical aid schemes.
(K) That midwives over 65 years of age be offered compulsory
retirement.
