PUERPERAL FEVER AND PYREXIA.
Thirty-eight cases of Puerperal Fever and Pyrexia were notified
during 1937. The notifications were received from the following
sources:— Maternity Home, 18; Hospitals outside the area, 10 (in
6 of these the confinements occurred in Walthamstow); and General
Practitioners, 10.
Since 1st October, 1937, under the provision of the Public
Health Act, 1936, the term Puerperal Fever has been dispensed with
in regard to notification.
The puerperal fever and pyrexia rate for 1937, was 21.89 per
1,000 births, and the mortality due to puerperal sepsis was 10.5
per cent. of the cases of puerperal fever and pyrexia notified.
The Registrar-General has issued the following rates with
regard to the notification of Puerperal Fever and Pyrexia. The
Walthamstow rates are set out in comparison.

Of the 38 notifications (Puerperal Fever, 4, and Puerperal
Pyrexia, 34) received during 1937, 18 (all Puerperal Pyrexia) were
from the Maternity Home.
