Complications:—Cervical Adenitis in 20 per cent.of the
cases admitted. Otitis media with otorrhœa, 14; vaginal discharge,
4; acute rheumatism, 1; acute mastoid disease, 3;
purulent rhinitis, 7 (all streptococcal).
One patient, a male, aged 20, was admitted with a mild
attack of Scarlet Fever. A fortnight later there was complaint
of pain in the calf of the left leg. This was followed
in twelve hours by a considerable attack of hæmoptysis
lasting for three days—there was a strong family history
of phthisis. This, in turn, was followed twelve hours afterits
cessation by venous thrombosis of one of the deep veins,
draining the left lower limb as evidenced by great œdema of
the leg and thigh. As soon as removal was free from danger,
the patient was transferred to Whipps Cross Hospital, where
he was detained for some months. No evidence of tubercle
was found on X-ray examination. There was never at any
time any evidence of cardiac involvement.
Cases Transferred to Cubicle Block from Scarlet Fever
Block.—Thirty patients were transferred for the following
reasons:—Whooping Cough, 4 Impetigo, 2; Vaginal discharge,
4; Rubella, 1; Observation, 3; Septic Scarlet Fever,
3; Venous Thrombosis of leg, 1; Abscess of leg, 1 ; Mumps, 2;
Mastoiditis, 3; Otitis media, 1; Common cold, 3; Acidosis, 1;
Recurrent Tonsillitis, 1.
Staff.—Members of the Staff were admitted to hospital
beds suffering from the following complaints:—Tonsillitis, 6;
Common cold, 4; Sub-acute rheumatism, 2; Septic leg, 1;.
Influenza, 1; Sprained ankle, 1; Rubella, 1; Observation, 3.
