Epping Urban District Council.
The agreement with this Authority was extended to
March, 1936, since when it has again been extended pending
completion of the extensions to Waltham Joint Hospital.
OTORRHŒA.
At the request of Dr. A. R. Friel, your Council's Consultant
Aural Surgeon, the Resident Medical Officer has
compiled the following table showing the incidence of
Otorrhœa in scarlet fever cases since 1930:—
1930 434 cases Scarlet Fever; 52 Otorrhœa 11.98%
1931 393 „ „ 23 5.82%
1932 392 „ „ 9 „ 2.28%
1933 551 „ „ 46 „ 8.34%
1934 465 „ „ 6 „ 1.28%
1935 454 „ „ 14 3.08%
Towards the end of the year, and at Dr. Friel's suggestion,
a trial was made of the use of grieswold dye, applied on
a nasal plug in order to try and diminish nasal discharge and,
in time, middle ear disease.
The trial of this method continues.
Indefinite Cases of Scarlet Fever.
Increasing use is made of the suggestion of the Chief
Medical Officer to the Ministry of Health (Annual Report,
