Only cases (4) and (5) could in any way be regarded as.
resembling diphtheria. Case (4) would have caused grave
anxiety in the absence of previous immunisation, while in case(5)
immunisation had not been completed.

THE HEALTH OF MONTREAL. We are still
unable to find a case of fatal diphtheria in a person fully
"immunised" and proved by post-Schick to be immune, and
even in persons partially immunised, fatal diphtheria is very
rare.

THE CASE FOR IMMUNISATION AGAINST DIPHTHERIA
"It is estimated that one in every ten children
born will suffer from diphtheria before he is fifteen years old,
and that one in every 300 children will die of it. In Birmingham
it has been shown that among the immunised children
only one in 2,500 suffers from the disease, and that no.
child dies of it."
(c) By General Practitioners.β€”In March your Council
authorised the issue of diphtheria prophylactic to general
practitioners for gratuitous injection.
Schick material and prophylactic was issued to ten
practitioners as follows:β€”
Schick material, 2 c.cs. (sufficient to test 10 persons).
T.A.F. prophylactic, 31 c.cs. (sufficient to protect 10
persons).
T.A.M. prophylactic, 29 c.cs. (sufficient to protect 10
persons).
A.P.T. prophylactic, 2.0 c.cs. (sufficient to protect 4
persons).
Scarlet Fever Immunisation and Testing.
Dick testing and immunisation of susceptibles were
carried out at Brookfield Orthopa?dic Hospital, 29 cases being
completed, and yielding negative posterior Dick tests.
The full immunising course consists of five doses, and in
several cases the course had to be discontinued after the third
injection owing to rather troublesome reactions.
Of 54 Dick tests, 20 were negative and 34 positive. Four
young children were immunised without a preliminary Dick
test. Immunisation was begun in 38 cases, but nine were
discharged from hospital before completion.
Dick testing was also carried out at a children's convalescent
home in connection with a small outbreak of scarlet
