(b) On 22nd and 23rd February, I attended the Fourth
Annual Conference of the Association of Organisers of Physical
Education, held at the London Day Training College, Southampton
Row, W.C.I. The proceedings were of an instructive
and interesting character.
(c) During the year, in co-operation with the Head Teacher
of Uphall Junior Department, a class in Country Dances and
Singing Games was formed for the staffs of the Girls' and
Junior Departments of all schools. The teachers attending
the class exhibited a keen and very enthusiastic interest in
the instruction.
(d) During November a most successful Netball Tournament
took place, all Girls' Departments competing. A pleasing
feature of the tournament was the match, arranged at the
end of the series, between a team of scholars selected from
various schools and a team composed of members of the local
teaching staff. This proved a very interesting item, which was
most instructive to the large gathering witnessing the game.
(e) During the swimming season, an experiment was introduced
at the Baths in the form of improvised belts for breast
and back stroke swimming, and floats in order to assist in the
cultivation of a good style and to impress on the scholars the
effects and consequent value of correct leg action. The apparatus
proved of considerable value, and the experiment will be
repeated during the forthcoming season.
(/) School playgrounds have again been painted for the
purpose of conducting organised games, in addition to general
activity and agility exercises. Where necessary, new and additional
apparatus has been provided.
(g) Throughout the year, special home exercises were, on
the recommendation of, and in consultation with, the School
Medical Officer, advised in a number of cases of minor physical
defect.
(h) Again I desire to record my appreciation of the great
assistance rendered by the Handicraft Centre in connection with
the making of apparatus for use in the games and swimming
instruction.
IV. Review of General Position.
In conclusion, I have much pleasure in stating that the
training continues on lines of steady development and progress.
During the year, special attention has been drawn to the
beneficial results secured by exercising the scholars in the
open air on all occasions when weather conditions permit.
F. J. ROBERTS,
Supervising Instructor in Physical Training.

11. Provision of Meals.— The Education (Provision of
Meals) Acts, 1906-1914, has not been put into operation in Ilford.
When necessary, meals are supplied from voluntary sources, and
during the year I understand that no such meals were supplied.
