11a. Defective Footgear.— During the year 16 necessitous
school children, found either at routine medical inspection or at
the school clinic to be wearing very defective footgear, were referred
to the Director of Education.
I understand that the children have been supplied with shoes
from a voluntary source.
12. School Baths.— Vide Annual Report, 1920.
13. Co-operation of Parents.— Vide Annual Report, 1920.
During 1924, 2,872 parents, or 71 per cent., attended the medical
inspections.
14 and 15. Co-operation of Teachers and Attendance
Officers.— Vide Annual Report, 1920.
16. Co-operation of Voluntary Bodies.— Since January,
1920, I have acted as Hon. District Correspondent for the National
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Inspector
Martin has again rendered very valuable services in this district
with excellent results.
The following is a brief resume of the work done by the
Society in Ilford during the past year :—
Total number of cases investigated, 56, made up as follows
:—
(1) Of neglect 43
(28 reported from the Public Health Department,
for neglecting medical advice, and 15 reported
from other sources for general neglect.)
(2) Ill-treatment cases 8
(3) Desertion 1
(4) Other causes 4
There was a marked improvement in the cases visited. Those
that had neglected medical advice either attended the Public
Health Offices for treatment or for hospital letters, or received
private medical advice.
132 children (56 boys and 76 girls) were involved, 89 being
of school age. In addition to this work, 283 supervision visits
were paid to different cases, some of which were made to cases
reported during the previous year.
