to entertain a proposal from the Authority for the provision on
the Benton Road site of an open-air school for 100 children, and
requesting the receipt in due course, of plans of the proposed
premises, and estimate of the cost of erection. On the 10th
November, 1924, the Special School Provision Sub-Committee
recommended that the School Medical Officer, Architect and
Director of Education prepare a joint report for presentation to
a subsequent meeting of this Sub-Committee. A further resolution
from the Ilford Tuberculosis Care Association has been received
by the Education Committee, emphasising the urgency of
the need for the provision of an open-air school.
It is to be hoped that this scheme, which has been under consideration
for the past twelve months, will materialise during the
next year.
10. Physical Training.— The following is the report of the
Supervising Instructor in Physical Training :—
I. Staff.
During the year, no increase in the staff has been found
necessary.
II. Duties and Organisation.
My duties in connection with the physical training of the
scholars attending the schools under the jurisdiction of the
Authority continue to remain as previously, namely, of an
advisory, instructional, and supervisory character as regards
the whole of the physical training (inclusive of swimming
instruction and organised games).
Such duties include staff conferences and practical demonstrations,
and are governed, as is also the instruction given,
by the Board of Education's Syllabus of Physical Training for
Schools, 1919.
Departmental visits have been made regularly and systematically,
each Department having been visited at least six times
during the year, except the Mossford School, which has received
three visits since 1st April, 1924, the date on which
this School was taken over by the Ilford Local Education
Authority.
III. Special Features.
(a) During the year, certain playgrounds, formerly gravel,
have been tarpaved, and additional apparatus (e.g., iron rings
on brackets) have been fixed in the playgrounds, thus providing
improved facilities for the conduct of games recommended
in Chapter IV. of the Board of Education's Syllabus.
