5'35 inches, being 0.43 inches below the average in the
corresponding periods of 77 years.
Sunshine.—The amount of bright sunshine recorded at
the Royal Observatory was 588 hours, or 42 per cent, of the
total mnnber of hours the sun was above the horizon.
Weather.—The weather during the quarter was marked
by several extreme changes of temperature.
Third Quarter.
Temperature.—The mean temperature of the air during
the quarter was 59°.2, being 0°'5 below the average in the
third quarters of 121 years.
Barometer.—The mean reading of the barometer was
29*803 inches, being .01l of an inch above the mean
reading in the third quarters of 51 years.
Rainfall.—The amount of rain measured during the
quarter was 6.58 inches, being 0.74 of an inch below the
average in the third quarters of 77 years.
Sunshine.—The amount of bright sunshine recorded
during the quarter was 447 hours, or 33.8 per cent, of the
total hours the sun was above the horizon.
Weather.—The weather in July was cold, and the
temperature remained generally below the average till the
13th of August; and, with the exception of about a
fortnight in September, from the 26th August till the end
of the quarter.
