THE BOARD OF WORKS
FOR THE
St. Giles District.
GENERAL REPORT.
The Past Tear.
The year 1892-1893, which has just closed, has been one
of great anxiety to all sanitary authorities, in consequence
of the fears that were entertained that cholera was likely
to prove epidemic. It has also been a year of hard work to
complete the machinery for giving effect to the Public
Health (London) Act, 1891, and it has been a year of
expectation in consequence of the promise contained in the
Speech from the Throne at the opening of Parliament, that
the long promised District Councils Bill would be at last
introduced into the House of Commons. It is hoped in the
subsequent pages of this report to give a satisfactory account
of the work done in dealing with the ever-increasing duties
cast on local authorities.
