This would not suffice for the removal of patients to
short distances, and hand litters would have to be provided
in convenient near places for the purpose.
5.—Removal and Interment of the Dead.
For this purpose communications were entered into
with Messrs. Perrvman & Co., undertakers, of Little
Queen Street, and the London Necropolis National
Mausoleum Company, Limited, of No. 2, Lancaster Place,
Strand, with a view of ascertaining on what terms they
would be prepared to enter into a contract with the
Board for the speedy removal and burial of bodies of
persons dying of cholera.
1. Messrs. Perryman & Co. contracted to provide a sound
one inch elm coffin, smoothed or covered with black
baize and finished with black nails, and three pairs
of handles, and inscription plate, the inside well
pitched and lined with calico, a stuffed mattress and
pillow and cambric ruffle, and slips, winding sheet,
and men with the same to remove the body of any
person of the age of 5 years and upwards from any part
of the joint parishes of St. Giles-in-the-Fields and St.
George, Bloomsbury, to the Mortuary in Goldsmith
Street (if complete in one journey) for the sum of
£1 10s.
2. Conveying each body as above in a hearse with coachman
and bearers from the Mortuary to the Great
Northern Cemetery, New Southgate, for burial, for
the sum of £2 8s.
3. Providing a similar coffin to above and removing the body
of any child under the age of 5 years for the sum of £1.
4. For the burial of children as above the sum of £1 12s.
