Infantile Mortality.
There were 298 deaths of children under 5 years of age,
of these 180 were infants under 1 year.
The deaths of infants under 1 were equal to 15.9 per
1,000 of registered births, and the number of deaths of
children under 5 was equal to 32.4 per 1,000 of total
deaths.
The diseases which caused the greatest fatalities amongst
children were Measles 44, Lung diseases 72, and Premature
Birth, Debility and Convulsions 93.
There were 5 children accidentally suffocated in bed with
their parents.

Senile Mortality.

273 deaths occurred at the following advanced ages:—

Between 60 and 70 years.Between 70 and 80 years.Between 80 and 90 years.At 90 years.At 92 years.At 93 years.At 94 years.At 99 years.Total.

These deaths were equivalent to 29.7 per cent. of total
deaths.
Only 48 of the deaths were certified from "old age," the
others principally occurred from diseases of the heart and
lungs.
