Sale of Food and Drugs Acts.
During the year 220 samples have been purchased and
analysed under these Acts, consisting of milk, butter,
pepper, whisky, gin, rum, brandy and cheese.
In 40 cases the samples proved to be adulterated. In
27 cases the adulteration was not, however, of so serious a
character as to necessitate the taking of proceedings, but in
all the other cases proceedings were taken; the fines and
costs inflicted amounted to the sum of £16 2s. Proceedings
were also taken for refusal to sell, and for giving false
warranties.
The Board and the Press.
During the year it was decided to admit the representatives
of the Press at the meetings of the Board, and the
necessary alterations have been made in the Bye-laws, and
the required accommodation provided:— the representatives
of the Press have since been regularly admitted.
HENRY C. JONES,
June, 1893. Clerk to the Board.
