regulating, and opening Lincoln's Inn Fields to the public.
When, however, the Bill came to be considered, the Board
felt that under the circumstances the matter was one
which might be very well left with the Trustees of
Lincoln's Inn Fields and the London County Council to
deal with, and they therefore took no action on the
measure.
THE LONDON IMPROVEMENTS BILL.
This Bill proposed to provide the long needed improvement
of a new thoroughfare from High Holborn to the
Strand, but the scheme was hampered with several conditions
which rendered it necessary, in order to duly secure
the interests of the District, that a Petition should be presented
against the same. Ultimately, and before the Bill
came before the Select Committee, the London County
Council determined to strike out those portions of the Bill
which related to the proposed new thoroughfare. This
question is referred to later on, and nothing need therefore
be said further in the matter at this stage.
THE METROPOLITAN POLICE PROVISIONAL ORDER BILL.
This Bill was introduced for the purpose of confirming a
Provisional Order made by the Secretary of State for the
Home Department, enabling the Receiver of Police to
compulsorily acquire certain property in Clarke's Buildings
for the erection of Police barracks. In order to secure
certain objects which the Board had in view, a Petition was
presented against the measure. In the next Report the
result of the opposition will be referred to.
