INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD SUPPLIES AND PREMISES
Food premises are always a matter of great concern to the department. With a depleted staff
it was not possible to maintain the supervision that would have been desirable but generally conditions
were satisfactory. One meat trader was prosecuted and fined for having a dirty vehicle and equipment.
Particular attention is paid to stalls and these are visited regularly at week-ends to ensure that a
high standard of hygiene is observed. As a result of a report by the Public Analyst that spraying of
apples imported from the Lebanon caused arsenical and lead contamination, immediate visits were made to
all fruiterers in the district and where such apples were for sale they were immediately withdrawn.
(a) Milk Supply
The number of milk distributors registered at the close of the year was 172.
