began stockpiling large dumps of coke which in turn became the subject of complaints by householders
in the area by reason of dust dispersal. A visit to the area was made by members of the Health Committee
and after consultation with the Engineer an improvement was effected.
(K) Factories, Workplaces and Outworkers
These premises received routine visits and out of 329 premises on the register there were 40
cases in which defects were found. These were usually want of cleanliness or defective sanitary
conveniences, but In one case an unreasonable temperature was maintained. It was necessary to serve
only 4 written notices.
(L) Places of Public Entertainment
Regular inspections were maintained at such premises, and where conditions were found to be
unsatisfactory a verbal intimation to the persons responsible usually had the desired effect.

imposed. New Orders were made requiring slaughterers of poultry to keep a record of birds slaughtered,
and prohibiting the holding of poultry exhibitions without licence by the Local Authority.
(0) Rent Act
Inspections in connection with this Act continued to take up much of the Inspectors' time. There
were 362 applications for certificates of disrepair, and each of these may entail several visits as
