LEGAL PROCEEDINGS
It was necessary to prosecute landlords in 20 instances for failure to comply with statutory
abatement notices. In 14 cases the work was carried out and the summonses withdrawn on payment of
costs. In 6 cases Orders were made for 21 days, and ln one of these a fine of £2. was imposed.

INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD SUPPLIES AND PREMISES
(a) Milk Supply
The number of Milk Distributors registered at the close of the year was 182, and the two large
dairies London Co-operative Society Limited and Mortlocks Modern Dairies Limited continued to function
satisfactorily.
The following licences were issued to use special designations prescribed ln the Milk (Special
Designation) Regulations 1949-54:
