(B) NOTICES
During the year 1,700 preliminary notices were served, 940 such notices were compiled. Seven
hundred and eighty statutory notices were served after report to committee, and of these 659 were
compiled.
(C) RODENT CONTROL
The number of complaints received in respect of rat and mice infestation totalled 208. The rodent
operative made 1,465 visits. The estimated number of rats killed was 487.
(D) DISINFECTION AND DISINFESTATION
Four hundred and forty-five visits were made by the Disinfector ln respect of infectious disease,
bugs and dirty premises. The steam disinfector was ln operation on 95 days for disinfection of clothing
and bedding; 760 library books were disinfected before return to the libraries from householders where
infectious disease etc., had occured. All articles returned to the Health Department "loan cupboard"
by ailing or disabled persons were sterilised or disinfected.
(E) DRAINAGE
The number of complaints of choked or defective drains received during the year totalled 594. This
figure shows a slight reduction of 56 (629). As a result of drainage tests by the Inspectors, a considerable
amount of repairs were carried out by the Corporation on behalf of owners.
(F) FERTILISERS & FEEDING STUFFS ACT, 1926
Eight samples were taken during the year as follows:-
Dried Blood Sulphate of Ammonia
Superphosphate Potash
Bone Meal (2) Expeller Palm Kernal Cake
Expeller Coconut Cake
One sample was unsatisfactory as follows:- Bone meal - below vendor's statutory statement - sample
wrongly described as bone meal. The matter was brought to the attention of the Agricultural Analyst
for determination and the manufacturer was cautioned.
(G) RAG FLOCK AND OTHER FILLING MATERIALS ACT, 1951
Nine samples were taken during the year as follows:-
Coir Fibre Cotton Flock
Rag Flock (4) Cotton Felt
Algerian Fibres (2)
All the samples were found to be satisfactory upon analysis.
(H) MOSQUITO CONTROL
The usual spraying of ditches and stagnant water was carried out.
(I) PET ANIMALS ACT 1951
There were 10 premises on the register at the end of the year licensed to be kept as Pet Shops.
inspections of the premises were carried out to ensure that the conditions of the licence issued by
the Council were observed. All compiled with the conditions of licence, and no complaints were received.
