Provisional population projections (natural growth only) have
recently been issued by the General Register Office and are based
on various assumptions (mortality, natality and migration).
It is interesting to note the basis of projections of populations—
15 years hence (i.e.—1962).
1. Mortality: that death rates decline at the rate of 50%
in 40 years at ages under 45; corresponding declines diminishing
to 15% males and 25% females at ages over 75.
2. Natality: that births (which ranged in England and
Wales from 580,000 in 1933 to 887,000 in 1947) are maintained at
an average of 700,000 per annum from 1948 onwards.
3. Migration: Nil.
An extract in respect of such populations for East Ham is
appended below:—
