The number of deaths of illegitimate children under one year
of age was 5 out of a total of 102 illegitimate births, giving a
mortality rate of 49 as compared with a figure of 18 per 1,000
illegitimate live births for the year 1946.
Infantile mortality rates since 1943 are as follows:—

Neo-Natal Mortality.
Children dying under the age of one month totalled 50 equal to

Maternal Mortality.
The number of maternal deaths was 2, the maternal mortality
rate for 1947 was 0.69 per 1,000 live and still births.

Population.
The Registrar-General's estimate of the population to the
middle of 1947 is 118,670, which is an increase of 5,100 compared
with that for the year 1946. The rates per 1,000 of the population
mentioned in this report are based on this estimate.
