N.B.—In considering the combined totals it will be noticed
that 76.79 per cent. of the case.; are in the age group 1—5 years,
18.78 per cent. in the age group 0—10 years, and 4.43 per cent. in
the group over 10 years.
The Schick test for susceptibility to Diphtheria was performed
during the year in 488 of completed cases, of which 466 proved
negative. In 22 of the cases positive results were obtained and
further inoculations were carried out.
The total number of children completely immunised from 27/9/29 to 31/12/38 was 6,294, made up as follows:—

Enteric Fever.
Fifteen cases were notified as follows:—2 in July, 1 in
August, 1 in September, 1 in October and 10 in December—1
death occurred.
Erysipelas.
Seventy-one notifications received, 22 removed to hospital,
and there were no deaths.
Dysentery.
Eighteen cases were notified as follows:—January, 11; February,
3; June, 1; September, 2; October, 1.
The cases that occurred in January were generally mild in
character and corresponded in type to dysenteric cases prevalent
at this time throughout the country.
Bacteriological investigation was carried out in most instances.
One death occurred in the Infectious Diseases Hospital.
Puerperal Pyrexia.
Eighteen notifications received, 14 were admitted to hospital;
one death occurred.
