the complications which ensude included an osteomyelitis
of the neck of the right femur, arthritis of many joints,
multiple abscesses, acute bronchitis, ctc. A blood transfusion
was given with beneficial results. An X-ray of
the right hip joint was taken at the Memorial Hospital.
The right knee was incised under general anaesthesia
and a large effusion was evacuated. The patient made
a good recovery, and was transferred to a general
hospital for treatment of a residual arthritis of the right
knee 106 days after admission.
Bronchopneumonia.
Thirteen cases of this disease were treated during the year.
Of these, twelve were due to measles and one to whooping-cough
and measles. All cases recovered.
Measles.
Nineteen uncomplicatcd cases were treated during the year.
Convalescent Measles Serum.
This was used in cases that had been in contact with measles
and satisfactory results were obtained. Where the scrum was
injected within a week of exposure to infection, protection was
afforded in most cases. Later injection resulted in marked attenuation
of the disease but not in complete protection. The supply
of this serum is unfortunately strictly limited.
Acute Anterior Poliomyelitis.
Six cases were admitted within a short time of each other.
Four of these cases developed marked paralysis. All the patients
were transferred to the Memorial Hospital at the end of about
three weeks for massage and electrical treatment.
Erysipelas.
Five cases were admitted. Good results were obtained in
four of these by the intravenous injection of anti-scarlatinal
serum.
