Bull Head Dock and the Victoria Oil Mills.
Boundary Wall.
On 20th July, 1897, the Bull Head Dock Works Committee reported having considered
a letter from Messrs. G. & H. Green relative to the wall to be erected between Cull Iload
Dock and Surrey Commercial Wharf, asking the Vestry to raise the height of the existing
wall upon terms to be agreed, and stating that they had agreed with the Surveyor for a
slight rectification of the boundary of the two premises.
Resolved, upon the recommendation of the Committee—That Messrs. Green be informed
that the Vestry do not see their way to entertain their application, but that the give-andtake
line arranged by the Surveyor with them is approved.
A further letter was subsequently received from Messrs. Green, enquiring whether the
Vestry were prepared to negotiate for the absorption of a part of Surrey Commercial Wharf
for the purpose of widening the street.
The Vestry on the 18th January, 1898, Resolved—That upon Messrs. G. & H. Green
giving up to the Vestry about 358 square feet of Surrey Commercial Wharf, to bo thrown
into the roadway, the Vestry re-build the boundary wall to its existing height of about
25 feet free of cost to them.
A letter was subsequently received from Messrs. Bradshaw Brown & Co. on behalf of
the Trustees of Surrey Commercial Wharf, stating that on condition the Vestry did not
damage the existing corrugated iron roof which was supported on corbels in the old wall on
the Vestry's property; that the Vestry built the new wall in place of the said old one, to
satisfy the requirements of the Building Act, and continued the said wall on the straight
give-and-take line as agreed; that the Vestry carefully removed the southern part of the old
shed building on the Trustees' land facing Rotherhithe Street, and the boundary wall and
fence to same to the point shown in red on the plan; and that the Vestry would provide and
erect to an approved curve (also shown on plan) a fence about 86 feet long, 7 feet
oak posts 9 feet apart, 3 arris rails covered with fir feather-edged boarding withcounter
