Notification of Births.—During the year 2,272 live births were notified. This
is at the rate of 98'0 per cent, of the registered births and compares with 96'2 per
cent. last year. The births were notified as shown in the following Table:—

In addition to these, 35 notifications were received from the Medical Officer
of Health, Greenwich, 70 from the Medical Officer of Health, Lewisham, and 32
from other Medical Officers of Health. 74 still births were notified. It is known
that 1,018 Woolwich births took place in institutions either within or without the
Borough, so that the percentage of institutional midwifery for the Borough as a
whole was 46.59.
The following Table, No. 8, shows the number of corrected births each year
since 1926; the number of live and still births notified; the percentage of notified
births, and the birth rates for the same period for Woolwich, London, and England
and Wales:—

Marriages.—There were 1,082 marriages (996 in 1929). The marriage rate
was 15 3 as compared with 16 01, 13 9, 17 7 and 14'1 in the four preceding years.
