Births.—During the year 2,319 births were registered in the Borough, 1,189
being males, and 1,130 females. Corrected by outward (177 males and 149 females)
and inward (104 males and 91 females) transfers, these numbers become 2,188,
1,116 and 1,072 respectively. The corrected figures for the registration districts
are shown in the following Table, No. 5:—

The birth rate, calculated on the civilian population for 1929 was 155, compared
with 16 3 in 1929.

districts, after corrections for outward and inward transfers, for each year since

Illegitimate Births.—The number of illegitimate births registered was 44.
There were 22 inward transfers and 5 outward transfers, making a net figure of
61, equivalent to 28 per 1,000 births.
Natural Increase of Population.—This term means the excess of births over
deaths. In 1927 it was 751, in 1928, 715, in 1929, 532, and in 1930, 641.
