Deaths.—The total deaths registered in the district was 1,404. This figure
includes 163 non.residents who died in the district, but does not include 306
residents who died outside the Borough. When allowance is made for inward
and outward transfers the net figure of 1,547 is obtained. The death rate for the
year, calculated on the 1929 population, was 10.9. In 1929 the corresponding
rate was 12.6. According to the figures published by the Registrar General for
the 53 weeks ended 3rd January, 1931, three Metropolitan Boroughs had a lower
rate than Woolwich, viz., Lewisham, 9.7, Greenwich 10.3 and Poplar 10.5, while
Fulham and Camberwell had the same rate. In 1930 the death rate for England
and Wales was 11.4, for London 114, and the mean death rate for 107 County
Boroughs and Great Towns, including London, was 11.5.
The following Table, No. 9, shows the death rates in each of the old registration
districts (after correction for outward and inward transfers) for each year since 1926.
