food surrendered were 1 ton 6 cwt. 20 lbs. of beef ; 2 tons
10 cwt. 4 lbs. of pork ; 4 cwt. 2 qrs. of pigs' livers ; 1 ton,
1 cwt. 3 qrs. 19 lbs. of ox livers ; and smaller quantities of
fish, mutton, veal, rabbits, corned beef, mincemeat, ox
lungs, grapes, tomatoes, dates, prunes and almonds.
Information was received on two occasions during the
year of articles of condemned food coming into the Borough
to be used as animal food. The necessary supervision was
exercised to ensure that none of this was used for human
consumption.
Unsound food was seized on three occasions. In one
instance the Health Committee considered that a caution
would be sufficient, but in the two other instances legal
proceedings were instituted.
FOOD POISONING.
No case of food poisoning was reported during the year.
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS.
The number of samples taken under these Acts was 572,
26 of which were found by the Public Analyst to be adulterated.
The percentage of adulterated samples was 4.5, which compares
with 1.8 in the previous year.
13 samples were taken on Sundays, none of which were
adulterated.
