Anti-toxin. Diphtheria anti-toxin is kept at the Town
Hall, and the Plumstead and Eltham Free Libraries, and is
supplied to medical practitioners, on application, at cost
price, or free where there is inability to pay. The amount
supplied during the year was 88,000 units, at a total cost of
£6 12s.
Deaths. The number of deaths due to diphtheria was 40.
The deaths and death rate of this disease each year since
1917 are shown in Table No. 28.
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM, PUERPERAL FEVER AND
EPIDEMIC DIARRHŒA.
These diseases are dealt with under the Maternity and
Child Welfare Section of the Report.
PNEUMONIA, MALARIA, DYSENTERY AND TRENCH
FEVER.
During the year the following number of cases were
notified:—
Pneumonia 236
Malaria 10
Dysentery 4
Trench Fever —
These diseases are compulsorily notifiable under the Public
Health (Pneumonia, Malaria, Dysentery, etc.) Regulations,
1918.
The deaths from Pneumonia during the past three years
were:—
