It will be seen from Table No. 27 that there has been a
steady increase each year in the number of notifications of
Pneumonia. This increase is probably due in the main to
the increased knowledge amongst medical practitioners that
this disease is notifiable. I do not think it is due to the increased
number of cases. It is desirable, however, to again
draw attention to the fact that all forms of primary Pneumonia
are notifiable and that the only secondary Pneumonia
which is notifiable is Influenzal Pneumonia,
Nursing Provision. 1 am informed by the Secretaries of
the various voluntary Nursing Associations in the Borough
that the following numbers of cases of pneumonia were
nursed during the year:—
Woolwich and Plumstead Nursing Association 68
St. Luke's Parish, Eltham: 23
Eltham Nursing Association: 4
Silvertown and North Woolwich Nursing Assoc. 2
No change has taken place with regard to the nursing
situation in Eltham during the year.
The following Table, No. 34, shows the number of notifications
of Pneumonia received each month, classified according
to the description of Pneumonia given on the certificate,
and the sex incidence. It also shows the number of
deaths occurring from all forms of Pneumonia during these
months. In this connection, however, it must be remembered
that Influenzal Pneumonia deaths are classified as due
to Influenza.
