Births in Public Institutions in the Borough.
4,150 births occurred in Public Institutions in the Borough of which
1,696 belonged to Stepney and 2,454 belonged to other Boroughs.
1,254 births occurred in the East End Maternity Hospital:—
306 belonged to Stepney, and 948 to outlying Districts.
1,019 births occurred in the London Hospital:—
399 belonged to Stepney, and 620 to outlying Districts.
350 births occurred in the St. George-in-the-East Hospital:—
238 belonged to Stepney, and 112 to outlying Districts.
968 births occurred in the Mile End Hospital:—
606 belonged to Stepney, and 362 to outlying Districts.
556 births occurred at 24, Underwood Road:—
145 belonged to Stepney, and 411 to outlying Districts.
1 birth occurred in the London Jewish Hospital which belonged to an
outlying District.
2 births occurred in St. Peter's Hospital, both belonged to Stepney.
Births in Outlying Districts.—151 births occurred outside the Borough, the
parents being residents of Stepney.
Twins.—39 sets of twins were born in the Borough during the year:
30 sets were live births.
4 sets were still-born.
5 sets were 1 live birth and 1 still birth in each case.

is born after the 28th week of pregnancy whether alive or dead.

Marriages.—The total number of marriages which took place during the
year was 2,117, or 124 less than in the previous year.
The proportion of persons married was 21.1 per 1,000 of the population.
