1,488 births occurred in the East End Maternity Hospital :—
340 belonged to Stepney, and 1,148 to outlying Districts.
853 births occurred in the London Hospital :—
338 belonged to Stepney, and 515 to outlying Districts.
311 births occurred in the St. George-in-the-East Hospital :—
230 belonged to Stepney, and 81 to outlying Districts.
991 births occurred in the Mile End Hospital:—
738 belonged to Stepney, and 253 to outlying Districts.
553 births occurred at 24, Underwood Street:—
182 belonged to Stepney, and 371 to outlying Districts.
1 birth occurred in the London Jewish Hospital which belonged to an
outlying District.
1 birth occurred in St. Peter's Hospital which belonged to Stepney.
Births in Outlying Districts.—152 births occurred outside the Borough, the
parents being residents of Stepney.
Twins.—37 sets of twins were born in the Borough during the year :
32 sets were live births.
1 set was still-born.
4 sets were 1 live birth and 1 still birth in each case.
The Notification of Births Act applies to the notification of any child which
is born after the 28th week of pregnancy whether alive or dead.

Marriages.— The total number of marriages which took place during the
year was 2,241, or 31 less than in the previous year.
The proportion of persons married was 22.0 per 1,000 of the population.
Deaths.— The total number of deaths, after deducting deaths of non-residents
who died in the Borough and adding those residents who died in Outlying
Institutions was 2,479—1,364 males and 1,115 females—or 171 more than
in the previous year.
The death-rate for the whole Borough was 12.2 per 1,000 of the population.
Deaths in Public Institutions in the Borough.—2,264 deaths occurred in
Public Institutions in the Borough, of which 1,414 belonged to Stepney and
850 belonged to other Boroughs.
