TO THE VESTRY OF THE
PARISH OF ST. LUKE, MIDDLESEX.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present my fourteenth Annual
Report dealing with the Health, Sanitary condition, Vital and
other Statistics of the Parish for the year 1898.
The Sanitary District of St. Luke comprises an area of 239
acres, including Open Spaces and the Basin and Waterway of
the Regent's Canal. The number of Inhabited Houses is 3,616.
The statistics of Marriages, Births and Deaths contained in this Report relate to the fifty.two weeks ending December 31st, 1898, and are calculated upon a population estimated to the middle of the year of 41,270, being a decrease upon the ascer. tained population at 1896 of 257 persons, and divided between the three Sub.Registration Districts as follows:—

It will be seen from the above figures that while the total
decrease has again affected the south side of Old Street, there
has been an increase in the northern portion of the Parish
of 265 persons.
Marriages.
The number of Marriages celebrated in St. Luke during the
year was 260, the number of persons married being in proportion
to 12.5 per 1,000 of the population.
The number of Marriages for the two previous years were
290 and 252 respectively.
