SHOPS ACTS.
Mr. G. R. Woods, the Inspector under the Shops Acts,
reports:—
"The expected consolidation of the Shops Acts and the many
relevant Regulations has not yet been enacted.
"It has not been possible to carry out an extensive routine
inspection of all shops in the district. The conditions of employment
in shops in this area are good and employers generally are
willing to co-operate with the Department.
"The principal contraventions found were the absence of
various forms which should be exhibited. On inspection it was
found that certain re-decorative work had been carried out, thus
necessitating the removal of the forms, and they had not been
replaced.
"There were 103 inspections made and 119 defects or contraventions
observed; by the end of the year 48 had been
remedied.
"In no case was statutory action necessary."
